Filing for city of Smithville mayor and Board of Aldermen began Tuesday, Dec. 15. By 5 p.m. Dec. 15, one person had filed to run for mayor and five people had filed for aldermen. Carol Shaffer filed to run for mayor. Shaffer is a current alderman. She has spent nearly 10 years on the board. Her seat in Ward 2 is up for re-election. Charles Waters filed to run for Shaffer’s seat in Ward 2. Bob Foreman, whose Ward 3 seat is up for re-election, filed for the seat. Wayne Orr also filed for Foreman’s seat. Jake Hild, whose Ward 1 seat is up for re-election, filed for the seat. Shannon Breckenridge also filed for Hild’s seat. Current mayor Carol Troutwine has said she won’t seek re-election. Filing ends Tuesday, Jan. 19. The positions will be decided during the Tuesday, April 6, election. Visit smithvilleherald.com for filing updates.
