The Smithville R-II School District would like the public to be prepared if the district cancels school due to inclement weather. A decision on whether to cancel school is typically made by 6 a.m. The district makes a single telephone call if classes are cancelled, and then a dispatch service sends the cancellation notice to most radio and TV stations in the area. Check the following outlets to see whether school has been cancelled: KMBC-TV (9), KFKF radio (94.1 FM), KCUR radio (89.3 FM), KSHB-TV (41), KFKF radio (94.1 FM), KCTV-TV (5), KMBZ radio (980 AM), WDAF-TV (4), KMXV Radio (93.3 FM), The Smithville Herald (smithvilleherald.com) and The Kansas City Star (kansascity.com). Additionally, the district continues to offer a text message service where individuals who would like to receive phone text messages about news such as school closings can sign up to do so on the district’s Web site, www. smithville.k12.mo.us. School closures will also be posted on the Web site.
