The Smithville Board of Aldermen declined to renew City Administrator Gerry Vernon’s employment contract during a Tuesday, Nov. 3, meeting. As a result, Vernon is now an at-will employee instead of an employee with a contract. Board members Bob Foreman, Adam Naber and Mark Krokstrom voted against renewing his contract. Board members Brain Fullmer, Jake Hild and Carol Shaffer voted in favor of renewing his contract. Mayor Carol Troutwine said that the mayor can not break a tie on an appointed office, so the motion to renew his contract failed.
