In coordination with the Mid-America Regional Council Solid Waste Management District’s Regional Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program, a collection event is scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 26, in the Kearney City Hall parking lot, 100 E. Washington St.
The event can serve up to 180 vehicles, according to a press release. The only materials that will be accepted are antifreeze, batteries, oil and paint. The program is for household waste only — no business waste will be accepted. Residents of Kearney, Excelsior Springs, Smithville, Liberty, unincorporated Clay County and other HHW program member communities can safely dispose of these products at no charge. Residents of non-participating communities will be charged a disposal fee of $75 per vehicle. The MARC Solid Waste Management District administers the Regional HHW Program with funding provided in part by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and participating cities and counties. For other hazardous items such as lawn and garden chemicals, house cleaners and gasoline, residents of participating communities can use one of the region’s two permanent HHW facilities for proper disposal. To make an appointment at the Kansas City facility, call 784-2080. For an appointment at the Lee’s Summit facility, call 969-1805.
