The Ali Kemp Memorial Stage will be a hub of Octoberfest entertainment Friday, Oct. 9, and Saturday, Oct. 10.

Smithville resident Andrea Boeh-Sheridan is serving her first year as the committee chairperson for the downtown courtyard events. She said she is “concreting” event times, so some minor changes could occur.

“I’m learning as I go,” she said.

Boeh-Sheridan, a realtor for Reece & Nichols Tuileries N.W., said the courtyard events began Thursday night last year. But this year the committee decided to start early Friday evening.

“It’s going to be exciting,” she said.

The Red Hatters Society will be first to take the stage at 5 p.m. Friday with a fashion show.

After the fashion show, two demonstrations are planned. First, gymnasts from Shoot for the Stars will perform. Next, martial artists from SHAPE Fitness at Saint Luke’s Northland Hospital-Smithville Campus will illustrate taekwondo. The band 9th Hour will be the final performance Friday night.

Saturday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. the stage will bring on the babies and toddlers for their contest. Boeh-Sheridan said the baby contest was scheduled originally for Saturday from 3 to 3:30 p.m. After reconsideration, the committee decided disrupting the tiny tikes’ naptime was not a good idea.

This year’s master of ceremonies, David Garrett, will take the stage from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday during the “GO GREEN!” parade. Boeh-Sheridan said Garrett has won the Sprint Guest Sports Announcer of the Year and was a guest announcer during last year’s Super Bowl.

“We have a hilarious and amazing emcee,” she said.

After the parade, adults and children can watch some “Mad Science.” Boeh-Sheridan said the group touts it will be “sparking imaginative learning.”

More beauty and entertainment will be part of the Little Mr. and Little Mrs. pageants, as well as the Smithville Junior Princess, from 1:45 to 3 p.m. The Pet Costume contest will follow, and Boeh-Sheridan said it is scheduled tentatively for 3:30 to 4:15 p.m.

Dancing with the Smithville Stars is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The Smithville Stars have not yet been announced publicly.

“We have some impressive community dancers,” Boeh-Sheridan said.

Announcement of all the contest winners is planned from 7:30 to 8 p.m. Boeh-Sheridan said one more demonstration will take place after the winner announcements and before another band fires up the stage Saturday night.

“We’re going to kick off the evening act with ATA Karate,” she said.

The last band is a youth “mystery band.” She said this will provide the younger Octoberfest attendees with entertainment while parents visit the Beer Garden.
